DAYLIGHT CHAOS: Vented Hosts Bay City Hardcore Backyard Gig

The fire of Bay City Hardcore roared to life as Geelong’s own LAY LOW, backed by Melbourne powerhouse LOCKJAW, tore up the quiet suburban neighbourhood in the first of what promises to be many Summer Backyard Hardcore gigs.

GEELONG, the home of Bay City Hardcore, has no shortage of iconic venues. From the grit of Medusa Bar to the old reliable Barwon Club, the town has long supported heavy music. But with the harsh Aussie heat creeping in, the idea of packed indoor pits starts to lose some of its shine. The scene adapts as it always does, and this October, VENTED stepped up to host its first Backyard Hardcore show.

On a mild Sunday afternoon, the quiet streets of suburban Geelong were shaken as LAY LOW and LOCKJAW brought noise, sweat and unity to a quaint little back porch. Almost fifty people crammed into the yard, buzzing with energy, beers in hand. What began as a casual turnout quickly evolved into a full blown celebration of Hardcore.

LOCKJAW opened the day with their trademark aggression, sharp riffs, relentless drums, and an electrifying frontman who wouldn’t stand still. As the midday sun broke through the clouds, the pit opened up and the backyard turned into pure chaos.

When LAY LOW took over to close the afternoon, the energy only climbed higher. Their set hit hard, raw and full of conviction, shaking the humble suburban property’s foundations. Hardcore fans made their presence known, showing up not just for the music, but for the community that holds it all together.

As the sun dipped and the last echoes of amp feedback faded across the neighbourhood, it was clear this wasn’t just another gig. It was a reminder of what keeps the scene alive: mates, passion and a whole lot of noise, whether its in a dark band room or under the hot Aussie sun. The show marked a small but powerful win for Bay City Hardcore and the community that fuels it.
